Attendance Line: 403-777-6180 ext. 1.
Students are expected to attend school every day that it is in operation unless prevented from doing so by illness or other extenuating circumstances.
If your child is going to be absent or late from school, you must notify the school at the number above. Please leave a clear voice message indicating:
- Your Child’s First and Last Names, spelling each name if required
- Their Grade and Teacher
- The Reason for your child’s absence as well as the anticipated length
Classroom teachers take attendance at the beginning of every morning and every afternoon. If we have not heard from you and your child is absent, our School Messenger system will phone and e-mail legal guardians to insure the safety of your child. With such a large school population, we need everyone’s cooperation in reporting their children’s absence from, or late arrival to, school before the start of each school day.
Punctuality
Plan to arrive a minimum of 5 minutes prior to the 8:00 AM start of the school day. Supervision of all play areas begins at 7:45 AM (15 minutes prior to the start of school). Being late has a significant detrimental impact on the late student’s learning (they miss instruction and educational activities), on our office staff (they must change absences to lates on the permanent school record plus issue late slips), on teacher time (they have to re-teach missed information), and on classmates (their learning time is interrupted/shortened).
Punctuality is also important when picking up students at the end of the day. Students who are picked up after school need to be met promptly at 2:40 PM (12:15 PM Fridays) at their designated exit door. If there is a possibility you will be late due to weather, etc. you should establish a safety plan for your child (i.e. come to the office if you are not at the prearranged meeting place). Please note, late calls/emails at the end of the day may not be picked up until after dismissal is well underway as this is a very busy time in the office.
Students Must Be Signed Out When Leaving Early
Parents are requested to come to the school office to sign out their children. This is for your child’s safety. If you need to pick up your child for an appointment, please go to the office and sign him/her out. The sign in/out book is necessary in case of an emergency and the school needs to know that your child is no longer in the building. The office staff will call your child down after you arrive.
Extended Family Trips
During the course of the school year, we sometimes have parents requesting to take their child on trips varying in length from 2-3 weeks to several months. When this happens, we are often requested to provide the work to be done during the holiday. This is not always feasible therefore we are suggesting the following:
- Have the student keep a written journal of all events.
- Encourage extra reading and spend time with younger students reading books and writing stories together.
Check with the teacher in advance of your trip to see if some of the work can be sent with you or to see if a list of suggested activities can be provided. Advance notification of extended trips must be submitted in writing to the principal.
Attendance Expectations at the CBE
Regular and punctual attendance is foundational to student learning, academic achievement and long-term success. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students applies to all students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
