School Culture & Environment at the CBE
Our students, staff and school community share the responsibility of building a safe, positive, inclusive, equitable and welcoming learning environment. Along with its own school culture, each school reflects a unified CBE culture of inclusion. This includes our CBE-wide approach to preventing bullying and to protecting our LGBTQ students. Collingwood School Goes Garbage Free!
Our students have been busy learning the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling our waste.
Over a period of three days (January 28 - 30, 2019), students had an opportunity to view and sort all the classroom and lunchroom garbage.
Student representatives from each class brought their classroom garbage as well as the lunchroom garbage to the gym stage each day.
Day 1:
Three full mats of Garbage was seen and sorted by grade 4 and 5 students.
Day 2:
Garbage reduced by half! Only one and a half mats of garbage was available to sort! Grade 3 and 2 students had an opportunity to learn what goes where!
Day 3:
The students were so successful in how they disposed of their waste that by Day 3 there was hardly any garbage left to sort for Grade 1 and KG! Only half a mat of Garbage was accumulated on Day 3. Well Done Collingwood!
Garbage Less Lunches
Garbage cans have been removed from the lunchroom and the staffroom. Students and staff are encourages to bring food in re-usable containers and to compost organic waste, recycle paper and plastics and bring home any other waste.
