Dear Collingwood School Families,
We hope your summer was filled with laughter, adventure, family time, and plenty of opportunities to rest and recharge. We are so excited to welcome our Collingwood students and families back for another wonderful school year.
Our teachers returned to work today, Wednesday, August 26, ready to prepare for an amazing year ahead. For the next two days, they will be planning engaging learning experiences, reviewing student profiles, preparing classrooms, and making sure everything is ready for a strong start.
A Special Message from Your Student’s Teacher
By 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 28, you will receive a welcome letter from your child’s teacher. This important message will introduce the teacher, share key information about the first day, and include a gathering map so students know exactly where to meet their teacher on the morning of Monday, August 31. Please take a few minutes to read the teacher’s Welcome Back letter in full. It will help your family feel prepared and ensure your child has a positive, confident, and exciting first day.
Our First Day Together
Monday, August 31 will be an exciting day—and, as with every first day, a busy one. To help everyone start the year smoothly, please keep these reminders in mind:
- Prepare: Prep your child by establishing healthy back-to-school routines (eg. Prepping backpacks, getting a good night’s sleep, eating a healthy breakfast, etc.). Please be sure to label all your students’ items as water bottles, hoodies, etc. can often look alike. Lost-and-Found items will be donated at the end of each month.
- Arrive on time: Supervision begins at 7:45 a.m.
- Know where to go: Please review the gathering map included in your child’s teacher letter before arriving.
- Street safety: Please do not enter the staff parking lot. Pay careful attention to pedestrians crossing the streets. Pedestrians, please use crosswalks to avoid accidents.
- Leave pets at home: For safety reasons, pets are not permitted on school premises.
- Bring your Collingwood Spirit: Smile, greet one another, and bring out all the Spanish and caring words you have. Positive first impressions and interactions make such a difference to students and helps fosters a strong community and sense of belonging.
New! Lunch Supervision
Lunch Supervisors will be working Mondays-Thursdays and will supervise both recess and lunch. Morning recess has been moved to 10:30-10:45 a.m. to accommodate the change. Please provide your child with a nutritious morning snack that is quiet and simple to eat as they will be snacking with their teacher during instructional time. On Fridays, students have recess from 10:00-10:20 a.m., which will be supervised by admin and teachers. Again, please ensure that students have a snack that can be eaten in the morning during lessons.
The first day of school is about belonging, reconnecting, building relationships, and beginning a new learning journey together. Establishing routines builds predictability and emotional safety for students so teachers are being very intentional with their plans to meet this intention.
We are greatly looking forward to seeing the hallways filled with smiles, Spanish, laughter, curiosity, and the wonderful energy that makes Collingwood School such a special place to learn and grow. Following our school motto, Trabajamos en equipo. We look forward to your partnership to make the best school year possible.
With gratitude and excitement,
Eve Moreau
