Parent Support

Thank you to the many families who made the effort of coming to our student-led conferences despite the poor weather and proximity to Spring Break. Students were very excited to share their learning with you. Thank you also for supporting the Fill your Freezer and Bottle Drive fundraisers. All funds raised go directly back to supporting the students at school. Finally, thank you to everyone who donated delicious items for the Teacher Pot Luck during conferences, you take such good care of our team. ¡Gracias!

Gymnastics Residency

Starting April 2, students will be participating in a gymnastics residency for 2 weeks. This will be followed by a one-week Mission Impossible Obstacle Course. For this entire 3-week duration please ensure your children wear comfortable clothes that they can move and roll in and that they refrain from wearing dangling jewelry. We are grateful to the Collingwood Parent Association for their financial support for this residency.

Volunteers Needed

Thank you to the many volunteers who came to stamp and tape books over the past week.  We are about 1/3 of the way through this major project. We welcome any parents who can come to school and continue to help us with this project this week. No volunteer clearance or sign up is required,  just come by the school to help.

Abejas Bilingues de Collingwood

Our Collingwood bees were busily, buzzing around the hive at the beginning of the week. This is an excellent sign that they have survived through the winter, provided they make it through the latest cold snap. Alveole Beekeeping staff will resume making regular inspections of the hive after Spring Break. Classes will have the opportunity to observe the hive during those visits by the beekeeper and see the bees in action. Alveole staff have been maintaining a blog since we received our hive and it shares information about what is happening in the hive and the workshops our students have attended. Be sure to check out the blog at the Collingwood MyHive website.

We are grateful to the Collingwood Parent Association for their financial support for this exciting endeavor.

Bee Logo Contest 2024

We are launching another Bee Logo Contest to choose the label for the honey we will be harvesting in the fall. Students are invited to submit their designs by Monday, April 8 and then we will choose a winner as a school.

Social Studies Survey

Albertans are invited to provide feedback by April 2, 2024 on key learnings in the new draft social studies curriculum. As part of this phase of public engagement, Alberta Education has released two new documents:

The Draft K-12 Social Studies Subject Overview provides a summary of what students learn in each grade and shows how learning progresses as students transition through grades. This is to help parents see the full scope of their child’s learning from K-12.

The new Draft K-6 Social Studies Curriculum is a document used by teachers to guide student learning, for what they are expected to know, understand and be able to do at the end of each grade level. The draft K-6 curriculum was drafted using the Draft K-12 Social Studies Subject Overview as a guide.

Note | Draft curriculum for grades 7-12 is not included as part of this process. It will be included in the future.

An online feedback form is being used to collect Albertans’ feedback on the proposed key learnings outlined in the Draft K-12 Social Studies Subject Overview. Alberta Education will consider all feedback to further refine the new draft K-6 social studies curriculum before it is release for optional classroom piloting during the 2024-2025 school year.

Feedback Form

The feedback form is open until April 2, 2024, at midnight

School Fees

There is a fee for all in-school and out of school field trips. These field trips are very popular and valuable learning experiences for students. Fees are uploaded to your MyCBE account throughout the school year. Currently there are thousands of dollars of outstanding school fees. Please take a moment to log on to your MYCBE account to check if you have outstanding school fees. We need your support by paying these fees so that we may continue to offer these enrichment opportunities for students.

Clothing Donation

As the weather warms up and our playground gets wet and muddy we are in need of more pants, and socks for grade 3, 4 and 5.  Many students are coming to the office for a change of clothing.
