Collingwood Weekly Update April 20-24, 2026

Please see our School Calendar for all of our dates and activities.

Message from Interim Principal – Rick Petrowitsch

I want to thank all the parents and students who have been so actively involved in the Read-A-Thon. I see so many stickers going up on the classroom posters. So many amazing things are going on at Collingwood. We had an awesome assembly on Wednesday. A Magician with a message. I hope your child came home and told you all about it. If not, ask them about his message. Hint: Brilliant and Resilient – Developing Smart, Strong and Successful Kids! – 7 C’s – Connection, Confidence, Competence, Contribution, Coping, Character, and Control. The kids had a great time and hopefully learned about some new words and concepts.

Several parents have been asking about the damaged floor on the Gaga Ball pit. The company from Lethbridge, which originally installed the pit, said they will come out and replace the floor under warranty. They cannot do the work until the weather is consistently warm. We may be waiting a while. There is a bulge and, most recently, a rip on the floor. If the rip gets bigger, it may become dangerous. At that point, we may have to shut down the Gaga Ball pit until final repairs are complete.

Support Staff Appreciation Week recognizes all the hard work that they do every day at Collingwood School. This includes our Office Staff, Educational Assistants, Library Assistant, School Assistants, Reading Support, Lead Lunchroom Supervisor, Lunchroom Supervisors, Facility Operator, and cleaning staff. Without them, we couldn’t do the great work with the children that we do every day.

Next week, we will receive our budget (RAM) for the next school year, 2026-2027. This is when all the big planning takes place regarding the allocation of resources and deployment of staff. These are incredibly busy weeks for the Administration and staff. We are hopeful that we will see an increase in our budgets for next year.

Traffic Safety

For the safety of all our students and families, we ask that everyone respect the law in the school zone. This means no jaywalking, not doing U-turns, and respecting the speed limit. The school does not have any authority over drivers on the streets. Let’s use caution over convenience.

If families witness poor driver and pedestrian behavior, please complete a police service report: https://www.calgary.ca/cps/traffic/traffic-reporting.html
