Classrooms for 2025-26
As families may recall, Collingwood School will be keeping our grade 6 students for the 2025-26 school year. In order to accommodate these students, we require three teaching spaces. While we have not decided which grades will be in which classrooms, we do know that next year rooms 17 and 18, adjacent to the library, will be classroom teaching spaces. These rooms are currently being used for literacy and math support with Sra. Beltran and Sra. Hamilton. The third teaching space will be made available by having two grade 1 teachers team teaching in rm 14. We are also requesting a portable classroom, although that can be a very lengthy process.
Singer/Songwriter - Kris Demeanor – Special Information for Kindergarten
The entire school has been enjoying working with singer/songwriter Kris Demeanor to create our own songs. We will be finishing the songs and recording this week. On April 16th there will be a rehearsal and on April 17th the actual recording. The kindergarten students created their own song with Kris and also learned a school song, which the whole school will record. Your children will participate in the rehearsal and recording on both the 16th and the 17th. In addition, if you would like, you may bring your children to school at the following times:
April 16 and 17 from 8:35 - 9:30. The PM students may come to the gym with their parents to be a part of rehearsing and recording the Kindergarten Song.
April 16 and 17 1:30 - 2:15. The AM students may come to the gym with their parents to be a part of rehearsing and recording the School Song.

The Collingwood School Parents' Association and the Collingwood School Council have decided to move our postponed workshop off site to the Triwood Community Centre.

To be followed by informal discussion at JT's Grill!
We are grateful to the Triwood Community Centre for the donated meeting space.
Feria del Libro
We will be holding our annual “Feria del Libro” and we need your help. All students are asked to bring in one or more gently used books between April 14-23 and they will have the opportunity to choose new books during our Feria del Libro. Children can bring in as many books as they would like, and all students will go home with at least one book. Please do not send any baby books. This year, we would like to add some oral Spanish practice, by having students "pay" for books with play money (provided by the teacher) and the student will have to ask how much the book is, the total, etc. in Spanish. The teachers will be preparing the students for these conversations.
In order for this event to take place, we are asking for assistance from our wonderful, volunteer community commencing the week of April 22-25. Beginning April 22, for two days, we require volunteers to help collect and sort gently used books. This will take place on the stage, in the gymnasium. Thereafter, on April 24 & 25, we are seeking Spanish-speaking and Spanish-learner volunteers to converse with our students in order to "sell" books. These volunteers will be provided grade-appropriate dialogues, in Spanish, so we welcome any individual who may be in the learning process and willing to try speaking with students in Spanish.

Signs of Spring
The Alveole beekeeper came to check out our hive last week with two of our classrooms and we are pleased to report that our bees have survived the winter. Now is a particularly challenging time for bees as they are becoming more active after winter, yet there are no new flowers blooming. Dandelions are one of the first flowers to appear in the spring and are an important food source for bees. Check out our hive at the link below:
Tuesday April 22 is Earth Day!
Earth Week Events
We invite all families and classes to extend activities and celebrate EARTH WEEK . What a great way to connect our Science Earth Systems curriculum beyond our classrooms.
EARTH COLOURS Tuesday, 22 - All Collingwood students are invited to wear Earth Colors of Blue or Green!
OUTDOOR Wednesday, 23 - Spend quality time outside in nature, pick up litter, read outside, play in an outdoor park or forest.
BLACK OUT Thursday, 24 – Raise awareness of reducing energy use. Classes will learn without electricity for at least an hour. Try this at home! Have a family discussion to reflect on how often lights and electricity are being used.

Kindergarten Registration is now open
We still have a few spaces available in our kindergarten program for the 2025-26 school year.
Children may start Kindergarten in the fall of 2025 if they turn 5 years old on or before December 31, 2025. Children must start school if they are six years of age or older on September 1.
There is no requirement for students to have prior exposure to Spanish to begin in Kindergarten or in September of their Grade 1 year. Parents are also not expected to speak Spanish.
Grade 1 Registration
All current Collingwood Kindergarten families, who live in our catchment area, and where at last one parent is not of the Catholic faith, are automatically registered in our grade one program. These families do not need to submit a new grade 1 registration form. New families interested in grade 1 are on a wait list at this time.
Commercial Messages
From time to time, the school sends out messages with commercial content, such as fun lunch notices, ordering pictures or special fundraisers. In order to receive these emails families need to subscribe to receive commercial messages from the school.
