Back to School Information

Please refer to the Back to School Information on the Collingwood School Website for important information about school hours, routines, school supplies, etc.

Kindergarten Staggered Entry

August 29 or August 30 are “staggered entry” days for kindergarten students where children will spend a short period of time at school getting to know in smaller groups getting to know some of the school routines. During this time, our staff will have the opportunity meet and get to know the children. Final classroom placement decisions will be made on the first regular kindergarten day of school, September 4. At your designated staggered entry time please bring your children to the school gym. Children will go to the classroom with the teachers and we will have a meeting with parents. Bussing for Kindergarten students will start on September 4.

Healthy Start to School

Help ease your children into school routines by reading every day and having an early bedtime . There is a lot of excitement and some nervousness associated with the first day of school and it is important that your children come well rested. Make reading every day an integral part of your nighttime routine to build a love for reading. Be sure to come to school on time every day to set your child up for success.

With the return to school and the upcoming flu season please do everything you can to keep your child safe from illness, including the latest coronavirus variant. The CBE takes the health and safety of our students and staff seriously.

In all matters of health, CBE takes direction from Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. The following health measures can reduce the spread and lessen the impact of illness in school communities. These include:

  • stay home when feeling sick;
  • if possible, avoid close contact with people who are sick;
  • wash hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
  • cover your cough;
  • avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands; and
  • clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and items at home, especially when someone in your home is sick.

Alberta Health Services has a respiratory assessment tool to provide Albertans with guidance to manage a wide range of respiratory illnesses, and provide advice on caring for symptoms at home, and when to seek additional care.

Family Picnic

Families are invited to come to the school for a family picnic on Friday September 13 from 11:00 AM- 12:00 PM. Students are dismissed at 12:15 PM, but families may choose to stay and visit at the end of the school day. Bring a picnic lunch and a blanket or lawn chairs and have a picnic with your child. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other Collingwood families. AM and PM Kindergarten students are welcome to attend this event with their families.

Thank You Volunteers

Thank you to the many families and parents who stepped up to help with weeding in the Naturalization Area last week and with building the book carts today. We are grateful for all of your support. Teachers are excited to start filling the carts with books and using them in classes!

School Council and Parent Association Meetings – Second Wednesday of the Month

Our first school Council and Parent Association meetings will take place at school on Wednesday, September 11 and 6:30 and 8:00 PM respectively. These meetings will be in person at the school and online. Further details to follow. Please note that we have moved School Council meetings to the second Wednesday of the month rather than on the third Wednesday of the month so that there will not be a conflict with the Senator Patrick Burns meetings.

New School Mural

We are excited to announce the completion of our new mural facing Northmount Drive. It features several scenes which symbolize our school motto “Trabajamos en equipo, working as a team”. We are grateful to the Collingwood Parent Association for supporting this project and the original artwork of local artist Hugo Dubon.

Parking and the Drop Off Loop

In the parking lot South of the school, there is a drop off loop which is intended for students who can independently exit the vehicle. Do not exit your vehicle to undo car seats, etc as if this is required, park along Collingwood Drive or in the visitor parking. Please also be aware that you may be fined or ticketed for parking in the St. Francis Parking Lot.

Collingwood Bee Hive

In Collaboration with Alveole, a bee hive was installed in a secure enclosure on Hockey Hill on the East side of  Collingwood School at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Students are encouraged to calmly observe the bees coming and going from the hive from the outside of the enclosure. Families are welcome to check out the bees when you come to drop off your children on the first day of school. Classes will have the opportunity to watch a beekeeper checking on the bees and participate in honey extraction and candle making workshops during the school year. Thank you to the Collingwood Parent Association for their financial support for this exciting educational endeavour.
