Interim Principal Collingwood School

Outdoor Skating

All students grade K-6 will be going skating at the outdoor rinks at Triwood Community Centre  Dec 15th - 19th. If the weather is too cold or too warm, skating will be cancelled for that day. We will make an announcement the night before whether or not skating willl proceed. At this point the weather looks good for Monday and Tuesday so far. We have booked the “Skate Shack”, which is a large trailer with skates and helmets for students to use. Students are welcome to bring their own skates and CSA approved helmets. No hockey sticks. All students are invited to participate in this activity, even if they have never skated before. We will have some chairs available on the ice for students to push around, and the older students and parent volunteers will help the new skaters. Please communicate with your child’s teacher if you have a wagon they can borrow to help transport skates and helmets to and from the rink. Please also make sure your child knows their shoe size so it is faster to distribute skates from the Skate Shack.

Skating- We need volunteers!

There are several open spots still for skating volunteers this week. We need lots of parent support to make this activity possible. Thank you to those of you who have already signed up.

Volunteers are needed to help shovel, distribute and tie up skates for skating on the outdoor rinks at Trwood Community Centre.  Helping skaters on the ice is optional. All children and adults on the ice must have skates and helmets. Skates and helmets for children and adults are available in the skate shack. All volunteers must have their police security clearance and completed the annual volunteer registration form. When signing up, please note that the times listed are the on ice times. Please allow 30 minutes before and after to walk to and from the rink. Volunteers to shovel snow are only needed if it snows. An email about snow shovelling and skating will be sent out the night before.
