Skating at Triwood Community Centre
We will continue to monitor the weather for skating, but for Monday, the plan is to use the outdoor rinks. There is no snow in the forecast, but if it snows on Sunday we will need the volunteers to come by 8:00 to shovel. A reminder that no sticks are allowed and that all children and adults on the ice must wear a helmet. To facilitate the distribution of skates it is helpful if your child knows their shoe size. As an added health precaution this year, we will be providing hair nets for all children using the helmets from the skate shack. They will only receive 1 hair net so grade 3-5 will need to keep their hair nets until the second time skating. All Collingwood students will be going skating between Dec. 16 and 20. K-2 students will go once and grade 3-5 students will go twice.

Student Absence on Fun Lunch Days
If your child is absent from school, on Fun Lunch day, and you were not able to cancel your Fun Lunch order by the deadline and choose to pick it up, please send an email to collingwood@cbe.ab.ca before 10:30 a.m. with instructions on pick up of the lunch. Note the following restrictions:
- The instructions must be received prior to 10:30 a.m. on the day of the Fun Lunch. Fun Lunches are organized and distributed between 11:00 a.m. and 12:25 p.m.
- Any unclaimed lunch orders (due to student absence), without directions received by 10:30 a.m., will be donated by the Parent Association to the staff room.
- Pickup time for Fun Lunches for absent students will be 11:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., at the school. This will allow our parent volunteers time to find and set aside the correct order.
A Parent Association volunteer will assist you with the lunch collection during this pickup time.

Painting at Collingwood School
Painting has begun in our grade 1, 2 and 5 classrooms. We are very fortunate to have these classes painted and are excited for this update to our school. While classrooms are being painted, one class at a time will be working for a few days in Rm 17. The painters will be working throughout the school day, in the evenings and on weekends to complete the job. They will be using a water based paint that contains no lead or mercury and no volatile organic compounds (VOC’s). If you have any questions about this project please contact school admin.
Safety in the School Zone
For the safety of all of our students and families, we ask that everyone respect the law in the school zone, this means not jaywalking, not doing u-turns and respecting the speed limit. If families witness poor driver and pedestrian behavior, please complete a Calgary Police Traffic Service Request.
Dressing for the Weather
Please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing for recess, lunch break, and / or community walks. The children go outside as long as the weather is warmer than -20 degrees.
Polar Bear Club
Even on days where the weather is colder than -20, those students who would like to will have the opportunity to bundle up warm and run around for a few minutes outside.

There is no requirement for students to have prior exposure to Spanish to begin in Kindergarten or in September of their Grade 1 year. Parents are also not expected to speak Spanish.
Please contact our office staff by phone at 403-777-6180 or by email at collingwood@cbe.ab.ca if you have questions about our Open House.
Commercial Messages
From time to time, the school sends out messages with commercial content, such as fun lunch notices, ordering pictures or special fundraisers. For example, the Parent Association is hosting an exciting new apple fundraiser this fall. In order to receive these emails families need to subscribe to receive commercial messages from the school.
Fundraisers and Donations
The Fundraisers and Donations page will provide you with up to date information about any Collingwood School fundraisers or Parent Association Fundraisers. It also explains the process the CBE uses for other donations. Please take a few minutes to check out some of the exciting plans of the Collingwood Parent Association.
