Thank you Families
Thank you to all the families who attended conferences the past 2 days. We value parents as partners in learning and appreciate your ongoing support by asking you to continue to read with your child every day. Improving reading is the primary goal in our School Development Plan this year and we need your help.
Thank you also to everyone who participated in our winter plant and honey fundraiser and to the many volunteers who helped with that event.
Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who contributed items for our teacher potluck, It was delicious and well appreciated! Families may stop by the staff room to pick up your dishes on Monday.

Painting at Collingwood School
Our grade 1,2 and 5 classrooms will be being painted starting Dec. 5th. We are very fortunate to have these classes painted and are excited for this update to our school. While classrooms are being painted, one class at a time will be working for a few days in rm 17. The painters will be working throughout the school day, in the evenings and on weekends to complete the job. They will be using a water based paint that contains no lead or mercury and no volatile organic compounds (VOC’s). If you have any questions about this project please contact school admin.
Water Main Break
The city crews have repaired the water main break and we are no longer using the temporary water supply. Crews continue working in the staff parking lot North of the School. Therefore there will continue to be high demand for the parking spots in the South parking lot. Be sure to plan to leave early so that you arrive at school on time.

Safety in the School Zone
For the safety of all of our students and families, we ask that everyone respect the law in the school zone, this means not jaywalking, not doing u-turns and respecting the speed limit. If families witness poor driver and pedestrian behavior, please complete a Calgary Police Traffic Service Request.
Dressing for the Weather
As we begin experiencing cooler mornings and variable weather conditions throughout the day, please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing for recess, lunch break, and / or community walks. The children go outside as long as the weather is warmer than -20 degrees.
Open House Jan. 9, 2025
Please invite your neighbours and friends to join us for our information night and Open House on Thursday, January 9, 2025 to learn more about our Spanish Bilingual Program and the opportunities for your student at our school.
Our doors will open at 6:00 pm with a presentation by before and after school programs followed by our Open House focused on Kindergarten and Grade 1 starting at 6:30 pm which will include information on our Lottery process.
Registration for the 2025/26 school year begins in mid January 2025. Children can start Kindergarten in the fall of 2025 if they turn 5 years old on or before December 31, 2025. Children must start school if they are six years of age or older on September 1.
There is no requirement for students to have prior exposure to Spanish to begin in Kindergarten or in September of their Grade 1 year. Parents are not expected to understand Spanish either.
Please contact our office staff by phone at 403-777-6180 or by email at collingwood@cbe.ab.ca if you have questions about our Open House.
Commercial Messages
From time to time, the school sends out messages with commercial content, such as fun lunch notices, ordering pictures or special fundraisers. For example, the Parent Association is hosting an exciting new apple fundraiser this fall. In order to receive these emails families need to subscribe to receive commercial messages from the school.
Fundraisers and Donations
The Fundraisers and Donations page will provide you with up to date information about any Collingwood School fundraisers or Parent Association Fundraisers. It also explains the process the CBE uses for other donations. Please take a few minutes to check out some of the exciting plans of the Collingwood Parent Association.
