Pink Shirt Day/ Week
Students are invited to wear a pink shirt to school on February 26th to mark "Pink Shirt Day" . This day originated in Nova Scotia in response to a new Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. Two high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school to wear. This act of kindness has grown into a symbol against bullying in schools across the globe.
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, students are invited to wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging! If they don’t have a pink shirt, students can wear anything pink. This is intended to be an inclusive event, please do not feel obliged to purchase a pink shirt just for this day.
Promoting inclusion is something that occurs at Collingwood every day. Stay tuned for more information as Sra. McCruden and a student advisory group are encouraging acts of kindness and inclusion all week.

Kindergarten Registration is Now Open
If we have more registrations than spaces available for Kindergarten and Grade 1, a lottery will be held for available spaces. All registrations submitted prior to the lottery deadline of 12:00 PM (noon) on Feb. 11, 2025, will be included in the lottery draws. All registrations submitted after the lottery will be placed on a wait list.
Children may start Kindergarten in the fall of 2025 if they turn 5 years old on or before December 31, 2025. Children must start school if they are six years of age or older on September 1.
There is no requirement for students to have prior exposure to Spanish to begin in Kindergarten or in September of their Grade 1 year. Parents are also not expected to speak Spanish.
Grade 1 Registration
All current Collingwood Kindergarten families, who live in our catchment area, and where at last one parent is not of the Catholic faith, are automatically registered in our grade one program. These families do not need to submit a new grade 1 registration form.
Dressing for the Weather
Please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing for recess, lunch break, and / or community walks. The children go outside as long as the weather is warmer than -20 degrees.
Commercial Messages
From time to time, the school sends out messages with commercial content, such as fun lunch notices, ordering pictures or special fundraisers. For example, the Parent Association is hosting an exciting new apple fundraiser this fall. In order to receive these emails families need to subscribe to receive commercial messages from the school.
