Kindergarten Registration is Now Open
If we have more registrations than spaces available for Kindergarten and Grade 1, a lottery will be held for available spaces. All registrations submitted prior to the lottery deadline of 12:00 PM (noon) on Feb. 11, 2025, will be included in the lottery draws. All registrations submitted after the lottery will be placed on a wait list.
Children may start Kindergarten in the fall of 2025 if they turn 5 years old on or before December 31, 2025. Children must start school if they are six years of age or older on September 1.
There is no requirement for students to have prior exposure to Spanish to begin in Kindergarten or in September of their Grade 1 year. Parents are also not expected to speak Spanish.
Grade 1 Registration
All current Collingwood Kindergarten families, who live in our catchment area, and where at last one parent is not of the Catholic faith, are automatically registered in our grade one program. These families do not need to submit a new grade 1 registration form.
Songwriter Residency
We look forward to working with local singer/songwriter Kris Demeanor from February 3 to 7. Kris will be working alongside our music teacher Sra. Heath and all of the classes to write songs with the students based on the Earth Systems component of the new science curriculum. This is a diverse component of the curriculum and songs may range from climate change to animal adaptation to extreme weather phenomenon. Kris will also be working with students and staff to create a unique Collingwood School Song. Kris will be returning in April to finalize and record the songs so that we can share them with the school community. We are grateful to the Collingwood School Parent Association for their financial support for this residency.
The Ned Show Feb. 11
All students will attend a presentation by “The Ned Show” on February 11 at 1:00 PM. AM kindergarten students are welcome to attend the show with their parents. This performance features a message about resiliency and growth mindset alongside a juggling and some amazing yo yo tricks. Students will have the opportunity to purcahse yo yo’s at recess and lunch on February 12. Further details to follow.
Collingwood Multicultural Day February 12
Get ready to celebrate the rich diversity of our school community at Collingwood Multicultural Day! We invite you to share and honour your cultural heritage by dressing in traditional attire from your background or family heritage. Whether you wear a sari or a soccer jersey, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn from each other and showcase the beauty of the world’s many traditions.
Valentine's Day
This year, Valentines Day occurs during Teacher's Convention and the students will not be at school on February 14. Classes will be doing a variety of activities related to belonging and friendship on Wednesday February 12. There is no expectation for children to bring Valentines Day cards, however if they choose to do so, they are asked to bring one for everyone in their class. Please do not send treats for the class to school on Valentines Day.
Dressing for the Weather
Please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing for recess, lunch break, and / or community walks. The children go outside as long as the weather is warmer than -20 degrees.
Commercial Messages
From time to time, the school sends out messages with commercial content, such as fun lunch notices, ordering pictures or special fundraisers. For example, the Parent Association is hosting an exciting new apple fundraiser this fall. In order to receive these emails families need to subscribe to receive commercial messages from the school.
