Bike to School Day
We had a great turn-out for Bike to School Day. Thank you to all the families, students and staff who rode to and from school as well the enthusiastic group of teachers and students who drummed or cheered for our riders. Go Collingwood!
June is Pride Month
The Calgary Board of Education strives to ensure that all our schools are safe and caring places for all students and staff. As a public school system, we welcome and celebrate students from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and beliefs.
At Collingwood School, we have honoured and recognized our unique school community throughout the school year with events such as Orange Shirt Day, Black History Month, Pink Shirt Day, Asian Heritage Month and Hats on for Mental Health. June is Pride Month, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.
The websites below have information related to the history of Pride Month and Pride activities in Calgary
Sports Day Celebration
All students will be participating in a Sports Day celebration on June 14, 2024 during school hours. AM kindergarten students will be attending school on that morning, however PM students are welcome to participate in Sports Day with their parents.
Sports Day Fun Lunch
The Collingwood Parent Association will be providing a free lunch to all Collingwood School children, staff and any volunteers on Sports Day
Lunch will consist of a hot dog, individual bag of chips, cookie and a juice box.
Sports Day Fun Lunch Volunteers Required
In order for the Sports Day Fun Lunch to be a success, we require some volunteers to help organize on June 13 and hand out the lunch on June 14.
The school will also need volunteers to help run the stations during Sports Day. If you have your security clearance and are available to volunteer on June 14 for Sports Day let us know!
CBE Dates of Significance Calendar
In the spirit of building a culture of appreciation and inclusion, where students and staff can see themselves valued, respected and celebrated, the CBE has compiled a Dates of Significance Calendar. As we work to make Collingwood School more welcoming and inclusive, it is our hope that this calendar will help build awareness in our school community.
School Fees
There is a fee for all in-school and out of school field trips. These field trips are very popular and valuable learning experiences for students. Fees are uploaded to your MyCBE account throughout the school year. Please take a moment to log on to your MYCBE account to check if you have outstanding school fees. We need your support by paying these fees so that we may continue to offer these enrichment opportunities for students.
Beekeeper Visits
Every two weeks the beekeeper from Alveole will be coming by Collingwood to check on our beehive. Classes will invited to observe the hive during these visits and ask the beekeeper questions. Each visit will be documented on the Collingwood Beehive Blog.
Collingwood School Bike-a-Thon
The Collingwood School Parent Association is raising funds to improve the bike racks at Collingwood and we need your help!
From May 17 to June 13, students can participate in the Escuela Collingwood School Bike-a-thon to raise $6,000 to improve the bike racks.
Students’ supporters can choose to sponsor kids for each kilometer they ride, per trip to/from school, per bike ride in the evening or on the weekends for kids who do not live within biking distance of school, or with a lump sum contribution. Donations large or small will all go to the Collingwood School Parent Association in support of the refurbishment.
The bike racks at Collingwood were originally designed to keep bikes standing up, and they do not accommodate modern locks because it is hard to get bikes close enough to the bars to lock them up properly. We recognize that having proper bike locks will make it easier for more children to ride their bikes to school - thereby increasing physical activity, decreasing congestion during drop-off, and helping to protect the environment by decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
Steps to Register a Class Team
Step 1: Go to the Escuela Collingwood Bike-a-thon page!
Step 2: Click on Fundraise.
Step 3: Click on Join a Team.
Step 4: Select your team/teacher’s name from the drop-down menu.
Step 5: Add your name and, if you wish, a photo or other image.
Finally: Add the amount of money you are hoping to raise. There is no minimum! You can update your fundraising page with details of how much you cycle over the month.
You can also participate by keeping track of your cycling on the tracking sheets that are sent home today, May 16 with your brand new Collingwood pencil!
Tracking your cycling will help your class qualify for prizes that will be announced on Sports Day, June 14.
Happy cycling and thank you for participating!
