Pink Shirt Day, Feb 29

Pink Shirt Day started in Nova Scotia in 2007 after a student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. It has since been recognized annually worldwide as a day to take a stand against bullying. All Albertans are encouraged to be inclusive, welcoming and supportive with colleagues, clients, friends and family. Building healthy relationships is one of the best ways to prevent bullying and create safe environments. While Pink Shirt Day across Canada is Feb 28, at Collingwood we will be celebrating it on Feb 29th due to our K and Grade 2 concerts on the 28th. Students are invited to wear pink to school. This day is intended to promote inclusiveness and therefore if your child doesn’t already own a pink shirt, families shouldn’t feel obligated to purchase a pink shirt just for that day.

Cross Country Ski Club Thursday Feb 29

Weather permitting, this week’s cross-country ski club will be held on Thursday at lunch. No cross-country ski experience is necessary, although students need to bring their own cross-country ski gear. We will meet by the playground.

Race Car Tracks Wanted

School Development Plan and School Fee Survey

As we begin to plan for the 2024-25 school year we are asking families to give us some feedback on our School Development Plan and School Fees. The School Development Plan identifies three major priorities in Literacy, Math and Wellness which we are pursuing as a school. Our current School Development Plan is posted on our school website at the following link: https://collingwood.cbe.ab.ca/school.

Fees for Bussing and Lunchroom are set by the Calgary Board of Education. Collingwood School Fees pay for additional activities organized by the school, such as field trips. Many of the additional opportunities available for students at Collingwood School such as residencies, guest performers, and additional school supports are provided free for families due to the financial support of the Collingwood School Parent Association. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey at the link below about the School Development Plan and School Fees. This survey will close on midnight on March 15th.

Diversity Picnic Table

Senator Patrick Burns School construction students have built and donated a picnic table to Collingwood School. This table will be installed in front of the school near our pollinator garden. One of our grade 5 classes will be painting this table and we would like this table to be painted to send a message that Collingwood is a welcoming, supportive place for all.
