Asian Heritage Month
May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions, experiences, and impact of individuals of Asian heritage in Canada and around the world. According to the 2021 Census, more than seven million people in Canada reported having Asian origins, or about 19.3 per cent of the population. Dallas Arcand Presentation Rebooked for April 29 - 1:00pm
Collingwood School is excited to welcome Dallas Arcand on Monday April 29. Dallas is a 3x World Champion Hoop dancer, storyteller and musician. He specializes in education and healing workshops, anti-bullying and Hoop Dance 101. He is from the Alexander First Nation in Northern Alberta. We are grateful to be able to offer this presentation at no cost to Collingwood Families thanks to the Collingwood Parent Association. Am kindergarten children are welcome to attend this event with their parents.
Que Pasa May 7, 2024
Our Grade 5 students will be representing Collingwood at Que Pasa, a gala event where all CBE Spanish Bilingual Schools gather at the Jubilee Auditorium to share in an afternoon of music and performance to celebrate the Spanish Bilingual Program. A few tickets are still available for this event at 1:00 PM at the Jubilee auditorium.

Hats on for Mental Health May 8
Students and staff are invited to wear a hat at school on May 8 as part of Mental Health Awareness Week to raise awareness of the importance of mental health.
Volunteers Needed
Thank you to the many volunteers who came to stamp and tape books over the past few weeks. We are about two thirds of the way through this major project. We welcome any parents who can come to school and continue to help us with this project this week. No volunteer clearance or sign up is required, just come by the school to help.
Volunteer Appreciation Event May 10
We will be holding a volunteer appreciation event between 9:00 and 11:00 on May 10 to thank our many volunteers for all of your support. Invitations will be sent out to our volunteers this week.

Sigmund Brouwer Author Visit – May 13
Popular children’s author Sigmund Brouwer will be coming to Collingwood the morning of May 13to do a series of presentations and workshops for our students. Thanks to the financial support of the Collingwood Parent Association,we are able to offer this presentation at no charge to families.
CBE Dates of Significance Calendar
In the spirit of building a culture of appreciation and inclusion, where students and staff can see themselves valued, respected and celebrated, the CBE has compiled a Dates of Significance Calendar. As we work to make Collingwood School more welcoming and inclusive, it is our hope that this calendar will help build awareness in our school community.
Beekeeper Visits
Every two weeks the beekeeper from Alveole will be coming by Collingwood to check on our beehive. Classes will invited to observe the hive during these visits and ask the beekeeper questions. Each visit will be documented on the Collingwood Beehive Blog.
