Collingwood Welcome Picnic Table

With the support of Sra. Abdulghani, her grade 5 students painted a “Collingwood Welcome Picnic Table” which will be placed at the front of the school this week. The students drew on ideas from the entire community to create a design which symbolizes the fact that everyone is welcome at Collingwood School.

Asian Heritage Month

May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions, experiences, and impact of individuals of Asian heritage in Canada and around the world. According to the 2021 Census, more than seven million people in Canada reported having Asian origins, or about 19.3 per cent of the population. This is a large and diverse group that has contributed to every aspect of life in Canada. The links below are valuable resources for information about Asian History Month and activities in Calgary.

The Asian Heritage Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the appreciation of Asian-Canadian participation in and contribution to Canadian society. AHF is the largest Pan-Asian Organization in Alberta and includes active involvement from over 25 Asian-Canadian community groups and over 200 volunteers in the development and delivery of its programs.

The foundation has compiled a number of resources and events school staff may access to strengthen their understanding of the contributions Asian-Canadians have made in Alberta and in Canada. More information can be found at the link below.
