Ramadan

For many Muslims in Canada, Ramadan is a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, generosity, and gratitude. Ramadan occurs in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and this year occurs between February 28 and March 29. Collingwood students who are fasting during the day and would prefer to be in an alternate location while their classmates are eating, are welcome to communicate with their teachers and the school will provide an alternate space. 

Parent-Teacher Conferences March 20 &21

On Thursday, March 20, 2025, and Friday, March 21, 2025, we will be hosting our parent teacher conferences online.  These will be 15 minute, online conferences.

When to Sign up For Conferences:

Online sign up for conferences will open for all grades on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 9:00 AM.

How to Book a Conference:

Booking of Conferences are completed in your MyCBE account.

Conference bookings will close as follows:

For Kindergarten students:  Bookings will close on Wednesday March 19, 2025 at 12:00 PM

For Gr. 1-5 students:  Bookings will close on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 12:00 PM

Resource Teachers, Sra. Beltran and Sra. Hamilton, along with Music Teacher, Sra. Heath, will also have a conference link available for families to book a time slot.

There will be NO school for kindergarten students on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

There will be regular classes for grade 1-5 students on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

There will be NO school for all students on Friday March, November 21, 2025.

If you require assistance booking a conference, please call the school office and we will assist you.

Potluck for Teachers

We are, once again, seeking the support of our wonderful volunteer community this March.  We are asking for several volunteers to contribute to a Potluck Dinner to show your appreciation for our Collingwood teachers during Parent Teacher Conferences on the evening of Thursday, March 20th. Two-thirds of Collingwood teachers will be conducting their online conferences at the school, so we are asking for a somewhat reduced number of dishes for each category this time. Please refer to the slot details below.

Lost and Found

Items are accumulating in the Lost and Found. Please encourage your children to keep track of their belongings and check the Lost and Found regularly. Remaining lost and found items will be donated on March 21. 

Traffic Safety

For the safety of all our students and families, we ask that everyone respect the law in the school zone, this means no jaywalking, no doing u-turns and respecting the speed limit. If families witness poor driver and pedestrian behavior, If families witness poor driver and pedestrian behavior, please complete a Calgary Police Traffic Service Request.

Spanish for Parents - Level 2

Fee: $309 per person or $429 per couple 

Continue building your confidence in Spanish to better support your child’s language learning! This course is designed for parents who have a basic understanding of Spanish and want to expand their communication skills in everyday situations. Through interactive activities, listening exercises, and guided conversations, you will strengthen your vocabulary and improve your ability to understand and speak Spanish with your child at home. 

The textbook, Spanish Made Simple: Revised and Updated, is required for this course (approximately $30, available on Amazon). Details for purchasing the textbook will also be provided upon registration. Recommended prerequisite: Spanish for Parents - Level 1

Kindergarten Registration is now open

We held a lottery on February 12 and any registrations submitted after that date are placed on a wait list.

Children may start Kindergarten in the fall of 2025 if they turn 5 years old on or before December 31, 2025. Children must start school if they are six years of age or older on September 1. 

There is no requirement for students to have prior exposure to Spanish to begin in Kindergarten or in September of their Grade 1 year. Parents are also not expected to speak Spanish.

Grade 1 Registration

All current Collingwood Kindergarten families, who live in our catchment area, and where at last one parent is not of the Catholic faith, are automatically registered in our grade one program. These families do not need to submit a new grade 1 registration form. 

Commercial Messages

From time to time, the school sends out messages with commercial content, such as fun lunch notices, ordering pictures or special fundraisers. For example, the Parent Association is hosting an exciting new apple fundraiser this fall. In order to receive these emails families need to subscribe to receive commercial messages from the school.
