Yo Yo Distribution

The school reached out to the NED team and they informed us that the specialty yoyos were on back order. They were scheduled to arrive Thursday, but didn’t arrive prior to the end of day. Assuming they have arrived at Collingwood, they will be distributed on Monday.

Parent Workshop - Postponed

Due to the ongoing CUPE labour action, we have decided to postpone the Parent Workshop which was scheduled as an in-person event on March 6. Once we have a new date for the workshop we will communicate with Collingwood families.

Labour Action Communications

The CUPE Labour action is ongoing. Any further updates will be provided on the labour action web page.

Next Fun Lunch – March 13

The next “Fun Lunch” for students in Grades 1-5 will be Thursday, March 13, 2025! This Fun Lunch will be Mucho Burrito + Booster Juice!

Order Deadline

The deadline to order a Fun Lunch or change/cancel an order is always the Saturday prior to the Fun Lunch date.  For this month the order deadline is Saturday, March 8, 2025, at midnight.  After this time, there is unfortunately no way to add/change an order.

Volunteer Sign-Up

In order for Fun Lunches to be a success, we rely on volunteers to help organize and distribute the meals (students are always very excited to see you!). Please consider signing up to help, using this link:

Fun Lunch Volunteer Sign-Up, 2025

In the event that your sign-up needs to be cancelled, please provide as much notice as possible as we require a minimum number of volunteers to distribute lunches promptly.

Student Absence on Fun Lunch Days

If your child is absent from school, on Fun Lunch day, and you are planning to come pick up their Fun Lunch, please send an email to collingwood@cbe.ab.ca with instructions on pickup of the lunch.  Note the following restrictions:

  • The instructions must be received prior to 10:30 a.m. on the day of the Fun Lunch
  • Fun Lunches are organized and distributed between 11:00 a.m. and 12:25 p.m.
  • Any unclaimed lunch orders (due to student absence), without directions received by 10:30 a.m., will be donated by the Parent Association to the staff room.
  • Pickup time for Fun Lunches for absent students will be 11:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., at the school.  This will allow our parent volunteers time to find and set aside the correct order.
  • A Parent Association volunteer will assist you with the lunch collection during this pickup time.

Upcoming Fun Lunch Dates

In addition to March's Fun Lunch, there are two more dates posted on the Healthy Hunger website.

April 17, 2025 - Panago + Booster Juice

May 15, 2025 - Subway + Booster Juice

  • These additional dates are now active and orders can be placed at this time.
  •  For any questions, please contact the Fun Lunch Coordinators at funlunchcollingwood@gmail.com.

Traffic Safety

For the safety of all our students and families, we ask that everyone respect the law in the school zone, this means not jaywalking, no doing u-turns and respecting the speed limit. If families witness poor driver and pedestrian behavior, please complete a Calgary Police Traffic Service Request.

Kindergarten Registration is Now Open

If we have more registrations than spaces available for Kindergarten and Grade 1, a lottery will be held for available spaces. All registrations submitted prior to the lottery deadline of 12:00 PM (noon) on Feb. 11, 2025, will be included in the lottery draws. All registrations submitted after the lottery will be placed on a wait list.

Children may start Kindergarten in the fall of 2025 if they turn 5 years old on or before December 31, 2025. Children must start school if they are six years of age or older on September 1.

There is no requirement for students to have prior exposure to Spanish to begin in Kindergarten or in September of their Grade 1 year. Parents are also not expected to speak Spanish.

Kindergarten Registration is now open

We held a lottery on February 12 and any registrations submitted after that date are placed on a wait list.

Grade 1 Registration

All current Collingwood Kindergarten families, who live in our catchment area, and where at last one parent is not of the Catholic faith, are automatically registered in our grade one program. These families do not need to submit a new grade 1 registration form.

Lost and Found

Items are accumulating in the Lost and Found. Please encourage your children to keep track of their belongings and check the Lost and Found regularly. Remaining lost and found items will be donated on March 21.

Parent Teacher Conferences March 20,21

We will be having parent teacher conferences on March 20 and 21. Sign up details will be going home next week. Traditionally we have “student-led” conferences at this time of the year, where students tour parents around the classroom to show them their work. However, due to the CUPE labour action, this year’s conferences may be online. Further information will follow.

Commercial Messages

From time to time, the school sends out messages with commercial content, such as fun lunch notices, ordering pictures or special fundraisers. For example, the Parent Association is hosting an exciting new apple fundraiser this fall. In order to receive these emails families need to subscribe to receive commercial messages from the school.
