Asian Heritage Month

Collingwood School Move-a-Thon

Thank for the overwhelming response to the announcement of the Collingwood School Move-a-thon!

It is not too late to participate!  All students who participate will be entered into a prize draw.  For the month of May, all students can participate in the Escuela Collingwood School Move-a-thon to raise funds towards the cost of the gagaball pit - a large, permanent outdoor enclosure used for a popular, active, handball game.

Donors can sponsor a student who pledges to engage in 30 minutes of physical activity per day for the duration of the move-a-thon.   Donations large or small will all go to the Collingwood School Parent Association in support of the construction costs.

Go to the Escuela Collingwood Move-a-thon page.  Click on Fundraise.  Then click on Join a Team.  Add your child’s name and, if you wish, a photo or other image.

Thank you for participating.  ¡Muévanse!

Swimming Volunteers

We need your help! The Grade 1,2 and Sra. Navarro's Kindergarten classes will be going swimming May 26 -29, and we need several volunteers to help supervise on this trip. We always especially need males to help in the changerooms. Please consider volunteering even if your child is not swimming. Details are at the link below.

Bike to School Day - June 3

Grade 1-5 students* and their parents are invited to participate in “Bike to School Day” on June 3rd. The purpose of this event is to encourage active, healthy living. Several Collingwood teachers will be riding their bikes to school on June 5th as a part of Bike to School Day. We will be meeting at 7:20 am at the Rosemont Community Association parking lot (2807 10 Street NW) in Confederation Park. Participating teachers, students and parents will ride as a large group through Confederation Park on city bike paths then on residential streets to the school. The total riding distance is 3.1 km.

Participating students should be confident riders, as our route will involve steep hills, passing parked cars and intersecting residential roads.

Please see the attached map at the bottom of this message for our meeting location and bike route.  We will be riding single file with a teacher at the front and the back of the group. Note that our route differs slightly from the map as from the community association we go directly into Confederation Park.

Students must be accompanied by a parent on a bike if they are planning to ride with our group both from Confederation Park to the school in the morning and back to Confederation Park at the end of the school day.

* Kindergarten students or those who are more unsteady on a bicycle could choose to participate using a Trail-a-Bike. PM Kindergarten students who would like to be part of the end of day ride with their parents are also welcome to participate using a trail-a bike. To model safety for students, all participating parents and students are asked to wear an appropriate bicycle helmet. We anticipate that we will arrive at school by 7:45 am and all bicycles will be stored in the school gym. The school will also store parent bicycles in the gym on this day if necessary. Students are invited to bring a lock for their bikes. The school does not accept responsibility for loss or damage to bicycles or helmets. At the end of the school day for those students and parents who wish, we will gather with students and parents in the gym at 2:45pm and ride together back to the Rosemont Community Association parking lot. We anticipate returning to the Community Association by 3:15pm. Some families may choose to ride directly home from school on their own. Please ensure that all participants are dressed appropriately for the weather with sunscreen, bug spray, water bottles and clips to ensure pants are not caught in bike chains. All parents planning to participate in Bike to School Day are asked to discuss bicycle traffic safety with their children.

Please contact the school office if you have any questions about Bike to School Day.

If we need to postpone the event due to poor weather, an email will be sent out by 6:30 AM on June 3.

Sports Day – June 13

We will need many parent volunteers to help us out on June 13th for Sports Day. Sign up details will be sent out this week.

Traffic Safety

For the safety of all our students and families, we ask that everyone respect the law in the school zone, this means no jaywalking, no doing u-turns and respecting the speed limit. If families witness poor driver and pedestrian behavior, please complete a police service report.

Commercial Messages

From time to time, the school sends out messages with commercial content, such as fun lunch notices, ordering pictures or special fundraisers. In order to receive these emails families need to subscribe to receive commercial messages from the school.
