Remembrance Day Assembly Nov 7

Our Remembrance Day Assembly will begin at 9:50 on Thursday November 7. This event will feature the formal musical sharing of our grade 2 classes. Families are welcome to attend this event. Students who participate in any of the girl guide, scouts or cadet programs are invited to wear their uniforms to school on Thursday to participate in the event.

Safety in the School Zone

For the safety of all of our students and families, we ask that everyone respect the law in the school zone, this means not jaywalking, not doing u-turns and respecting the speed limit. If families witness poor driver and pedestrian behavior, please complete a Calgary Police Traffic Service Request.

Annual CBE Online Forms- Now Overdue

We thank our families for taking the time to complete the opening forms on their MYCBE account.  We still have 10% of families yet to complete the forms. Forms are completed in SchoolEngage.

SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, etc. If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video). These forms are mandatory every year for Alberta Education to confirm student funding.

November School Council Meeting  Nov 27

Our November School Council Meeting will be an online meeting only from 6:30 – 8:00 PM. All families are welcome to attend the meeting at the following link: Click here to join the meeting

Dressing for the Weather

As we begin experiencing cooler mornings and variable weather conditions throughout the day, please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing for recess, lunch break, and / or community walks. You may consider packing a pair of light gloves and a toque along. Please make sure that they have an appropriate jacket to wear and /or an umbrella if the forecast calls for rain.

Philosophy in the Classroom

Several of our classes are participating in a Philosophy in the Classroom Program run by University of Calgary Philosophy Professor Chris Framarin and his graduate students. As part of the program, Professor Framarin leads discussions in the classroom, and students explore elements of logic and reasoning to tackle philosophical questions.

Fun Lunch Nov 21

Mark your calendars! The next "Fun Lunch” for students in Grades 1-5 will be Thursday, November 21, 2024! This Fun Lunch will be Mucho Burrito + Booster Juice! To sign up for Fun Lunches, families need to have an account on the Healthy Hunger Website. Please see the set up instructions here, Healthy Hunger Set-Up Instructions.

The deadline to order a Fun Lunch or change an order is always the Saturday prior to the Fun Lunch date. So, for this month, the deadline for the order is Saturday, November 16, 2024, at midnight.  After this time, there is unfortunately no way to add/change an order.

As a reminder, we are a litter free school, so students will be asked to bring home all leftovers and garbage from the Fun Lunch.  Parents may wish to send a bag to contain any drips and help kids with this!

Volunteer Sign-Up

In order for Fun Lunches to be a success, we rely on volunteers to help check and distribute the meals (kids are always very excited to see you!). Please consider signing up to help, using this link:

Lunchroom

Visit our Lunchtime page for information on our breakdown of staggered lunch times and fun lunch dates.

Students in the lunch program need to bring lunch. We encourage the use of an insulated flask (e.g., Thermos™) for hot lunches, as microwave ovens and hot water are not provided. Please provide any cutlery required for the lunch as cutlery is not provided by the school. Our school participates in “litter less lunches” (pack in, pack out) and it is suggested to supply a zip-loc bag or container to store used portions of food, lessening mess in the lunch bag.

What happens if my child forgets their lunch?

We have a limited emergency pantry and provide prepackaged food, such as granola bar, should your child forget lunch, however attempts will be made to phone home first.

More information on lunchroom can be found on our CBE Lunchroom page as well as the Lunchroom Supervision Manual.

Musical Sharing

Every grade will be featured at one point during the year to share some of their learning from the music program. These concerts will be held during the school day. The dates for this school year’s remaining music sharing are below. Please note that the Que Pasa event has been changed to May 6.

Kindergarten and Grade 1 – December Concerts - December 11, 12

Grade 2 – Remembrance Day - November 7

Grade 5 – Que Pasa – May 6

Open House Jan 9, 2025

Please share with your families, neighbours and friends to join us for our information night and Open House on Thursday, January 9, 2025 to learn more about our Spanish Bilingual Program and the opportunities for your student at our school.

Our doors will open at 6:00 pm with a presentation by before and after school programs followed by our Open House focused on Kindergarten and Grade 1 starting at 6:30 pm which will include information on our Lottery process.

Registration for the 2025/26 school year begins in mid January 2025. Children can start Kindergarten in the fall of 2025 if they turn 5 years old on or before December 31, 2025. Children must start school if they are six years of age or older on September 1.

There is no requirement for students to have prior exposure to Spanish to begin in Kindergarten or in September of their Grade 1 year. Parents are not expected to understand Spanish either.

Please contact our office staff by phone at 403-777-6180 or by email at collingwood@cbe.ab.ca if you have questions about our Open House.

Commercial Messages

For example, the Parent Association is hosting an exciting new apple fundraiser this fall.
