Class Group Picture Day and Retake Day Monday October 28, 2024
We will be having our class group pictures as well as retakes on Monday October 28, 2024.
If you need a re-take of your student's individual picture, please email the class teacher to arrange it. It would also be helpful to include a note for the student to give to the photographer with any specific instructions.
Students who were absent on picture day, September 18, 2024, will have their pictures taken on this date.
Thank you to the parents who have signed up for volunteering with picture re-take day and group picture day.
Dia de los muertos/ Day of the Dead Invitation - Oct 30 8:00 PM
The Collingwood School Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee cordially invites you to our first event! See below for details:
What: Explore And Learn All About Day of the Dead
When: Wednesday October 30 at 8:00pm
Where: Online Microsoft Teams Join the meeting now
Who should attend: Our fabulous Collingwood parents, guardians, administrators, teachers and anyone else who is interested and curious about this beautiful Mexican tradition.
We would especially love for our Mexican community here at Collingwood to join us, educate us and share their own personal experiences with us!
The DEI committee will additionally share a video that teaches about this tradition. Let's open up a conversation and take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and curiosity that lives right here in our Collingwood Parent/Guardian/Teacher Community!
Please note that the goal of this committee is to embrace and celebrate the diversity among us and we are always open to listening to all ideas, opinions and concerns.
Feel free to email us your thoughts as well as RSVP for this event at:
deicollingwoodschool@gmail.com or contact Lizeth Gutierrez at 403-404-0613.
Halloween
Halloween is an important cultural activity for many of our children and families. Students are invited to wear their Halloween costume to school on October 31. There will be a Halloween Parade on that day so students will be able to see one another’s costumes. Costumes with excessive gore or weapons are not allowed at school. Classes will also be organizing Halloween-themed learning activities with their grade teams. Please do not send food or treats to school on Halloween or on your child’s birthday. Please contact your child’s teacher if your child will not be participating in Halloween activities and requires an alternative learning plan at school for the day.
Lunchroom
Visit our Lunchtime Page for information on our breakdown of staggered lunch times and fun lunch dates - Website: Lunchtime
Students in the lunch program need to bring lunch. We encourage the use of an insulated flask (e.g., Thermos™) for hot lunches, as microwave ovens and hot water are not provided. Please provide any cutlery required for the lunch as cutlery is not provided by the school. Our school participates in “litter less lunches” (pack in, pack out) and it is suggested to supply a zip-loc bag or container to store used portions of food, lessening mess in the lunch bag.
What happens if my child forgets their lunch?
We have a limited emergency pantry and provide prepackaged food, such as granola bars, should your child forget lunch, however attempts will be made to phone home first.
More information on lunchroom can be found on our CBE Lunchroom page as well as the Lunchroom Supervision Manual.
Annual CBE Online Forms- Now Overdue
We thank our families for taking the time to complete the opening forms on their MYCBE account. We still have 10% of families yet to complete the forms. Forms are completed in SchoolEngage.
SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, etc. If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video). These forms are mandatory every year for Alberta Education to confirm student funding.
Dressing for the Weather
As we begin experiencing cooler mornings and variable weather conditions throughout the day, please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing for recess, lunch break, and / or community walks. You may consider packing a pair of light gloves and a toque along. Please make sure that they have an appropriate jacket to wear and /or an umbrella if the forecast calls for rain.
Philosophy in the Classroom
Several of our classes are participating in a Philosophy in the Classroom Program run by University of Calgary Philosophy Professor Chris Framarin and his graduate students. As part of the program, Professor Framarin leads discussions in the classroom, and students explore elements of logic and reasoning to to tackle philosophical questions.
Safety in the School Zone
For the safety of all of our students and families, we ask that everyone respect the law in the school zone, this means not jaywalking, not doing u-turns and respecting the speed limit. If families witness poor driver and pedestrian behavior, please call 311 to seek bylaw enforcement.
Musical Sharing
Every grade will be featured at one point during the year to share some of their learning from the music program. These concerts will be held during the school day. The dates for this year’s music sharing are as follows:
Kindergarten and Grade 1 – December Concerts - December 11, 12
Grade 2 – Remembrance Day - November 7th
Grade 5 – Que Pasa – May 7

For example, the Parent Association is hosting an exciting new apple fundraiser this fall. In order to receive these emails families need to subscribe to receive commercial messages from the school.
