Fall Apple Fundraiser

The Collingwood School Parents’ Association is very pleased to announce that this year we will be running an exciting new fall fundraiser.

We have partnered up with Sun-Oka, a distinguished Okanagan orchard, to sell their delicious farm-fresh apples. Because we’re sourcing them directly from the farm, you get to buy them at below grocery store prices. See details at this fundraising link.

You’ll get the best apples you’ve ever eaten… and save some money.

Plus, with each box sold we will raise $10 for the music program at Collingwood. The funds we raise are so important for providing additional resources that will enrich and enhance our kids’ growth.

We also ask that you please consider sharing this fundraiser sale with your nearby friends and family.  Everything is done online, so you won’t have to deal with any of the hassles of collecting money or keeping records. All you need to do is share a link via email or text message.

Order by October 8, 2024.  Pick-up at Collingwood School will be on Thursday, October 24.

Musical Sharing

Every grade will be featured at one point during the year to share some of their learning from the music program. These concerts will be held during the school day. The dates for this year’s music sharing are as follows:

Kindergarten and Grade 1 – December Concerts - December 11, 12

Grade 2 – Remembrance Day -  November 7

Grade 3 & 4 – Musical Accompaniment to Circus Performance - Oct 17 PM

Grade 5 – Que Pasa – May 7

Circus Residency

From October 7-18, all K-5 students will be participating in a Circus Residency with Green Fools Theatre Company. They will have the opportunity to learn a variety of circus skills led by a professional theatre company. Students will need to wear comfortable clothes that will allow them to easily move and to avoid wearing dangling jewelry during the residency. Grade 3 and 4 classes will be performing musical numbers to accompany the circus performance. We are grateful to the Collingwood School Parent Association for their financial support for this residency. We are also pleased to announce that the school has been successful in receiving a grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts for this residency.

School Council AGM  

• Oct. 9 6:30 – 7:30 PM

All families are invited to attend the School Council AGM on October 9 at 6:30 PM. A number of positions will be open on the school council executive and families are encouraged to get involved. It is an excellent way to meet new families and contribute to the school community.  Babysitting will be available. This event will be in person and online at the following link Join the meeting

Safety in the School Zone

For the safety of all of our students and families, we ask that everyone respect the law in the school zone, this means not jaywalking, not doing u-turns and respecting the speed limit. If families witness poor driver and pedestrian behavior, please call 311 to seek bylaw enforcement.

Spanish for Parents

Chinook Learning will be offering Spanish for Parents – Level 1 in the fall.  
Course: Spanish for Parents – Level 1 
Date: Tuesdays, October 8, 15, 22, 29 & November 5, 19, 26 & December 3 
Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM 
Location: In-person at Dalhousie School  

If there is enough interest from parents, they may also offer a Level 2 course.

Clothing Donation

We are in need of gently used clothing for all grades, Kindergarten-Grade 5. Items for younger grades are most helpful. Pants are our most used item, but socks and T-shirts are needed as well. New underwear is also appreciated.   Please have your child bring items to the main office. We appreciate any donations. Thank You!

Fun Lunch Oct. 17

Our October fun lunch for students in grades 1-5 will be Thursday, October 17, 2024! This fun lunch will be Panago Pizza and Booster Juice. In order to sign up for Fun Lunches, families need to have an account on the Healthy Hunger Website(www.healthyhunger.ca) . The deadline to order fun lunch or change/cancel an order is always the Saturday prior to the fun lunch date. So, for this month, the deadline to order or cancel is Saturday, October 12, 2024 at midnight.  After this time, there is unfortunately no way to add/change or cancel an order.

As a reminder, we are a litter free school, so kids will be asked to bring home all leftovers and garbage from the fun lunch.  Parents may wish to send a bag to help students contain any leaks/drips!

In order for fun lunches to be a success, we rely on volunteers to help check and distribute the meals (kids are always very excited to see you!) Please consider signing up to help using this link.

Student Absent on Fun Lunch Days

If your child is absent from school on fun lunch day and you were not able to cancel their lunch order by the deadline you can come pick up their fun lunch.  If you are planning to do so, please send an email to collingwood@cbe.ab.ca  before 10:30 am with instructions on pick up of the fun lunch.  

The instructions must be received prior to 10:30am on the day of the fun lunch.  Fun lunches are organized and distributed between 11:00am - 12:25pm. 

Any unclaimed lunch orders, due to absence of student, without directions received by 10:30am will be donated by the parent association to the staff room.  

Pick up time for fun Lunches for absent students will be 11:45am - 12:15pm at the school.  This will allow our parent volunteers time to find and set aside the fun lunch. 

A parent association volunteer will assist you with the lunch collection during this pick up time.

Commercial Messages

From time to time, the school sends out messages with commercial content, such as fun lunch notices, ordering pictures or special fundraisers. For example, the Parent Association is hosting an exciting new apple fundraiser this fall. In order to receive these emails families need to subscribe to receive commercial messages from the school.
