School Fees and Field Trips
We consistently hear from parents and students how much they value and appreciate field trips as a way to extend the learning experience. Every year field trip fees are uploaded into families MyCBE account. Last year there were over $4500 of unpaid field trip fees which the school must pay out of our operating budget. The school cannot offer all of the field trips we had planned for this year because of this deficit. It is important to note that this deficit is on top of the over $6000 which the Parent Association contributed to offset the cost of bussing. Families can still pay for last year’s field trips through MyCBE. We will assess our financial situation at the end of September and make a decision about this year’s trips. Families who would like to make a donation to help make up this shortfall can do so through Education Matters.
Any donations made to Collingwood School through Education Matters by September 30 will be directed towards our field trip deficit.
In Person Parent-Teacher Conferences
On Thursday, September 25, 2025, and Monday, September 29, 2025, we will be hosting our Parent-Teacher Conferences at Collingwood School. Historically these conferences are held on a Thursday Evening and the following Friday during the day. However this year because of the CBE schedule of non-instructional days, conferences will be held on a Thursday evening and a Monday. Conferences will be 15-minute, in-person meetings. These meetings are an opportunity for parents and guardians to share information about your child, their learning style and interests with the teacher. Sra. Heath, our music teacher, will also be available in the music room for drop-in visits during conferences.
Important Note:
- There will be regular classes for all grades from Kindergarten to Grade 6 on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Labour Action
The Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) announced last week that if a negotiated settlement cannot be reached, strike action would begin on Monday, Oct. 6.
For now, it is business as usual in CBE schools. We are still hopeful that a settlement will be reached between the ATA and Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) before Oct. 6. Labour action causes uncertainty for everyone, particularly if you are a parent of a K-12 student in Alberta.
You can expect more communication as the situation evolves, and if strike action is expected to begin. You can also find the most up-to-date information on the CBE’s labour action webpage.

Fall Apple Fundraiser
The Collingwood School Parents’ Association is very pleased to announce we have partnered up again with Sun-Oka, a distinguished Okanagan orchard, to sell their delicious farm-fresh apples for our first fundraiser of the year.
Because we’re sourcing the apples directly from the farm, you get to buy them at below grocery store prices. You’ll get the best apples you’ve ever eaten… and save some money.
Plus, with each box sold we will raise $10 for the music program at Collingwood. The funds we raise are so important for providing additional resources that will enrich and enhance our kids’ growth.
We also ask that you please consider sharing this fundraiser sale with your nearby friends and family. Everything is done online, so you won’t have to deal with any of the hassles of collecting money or keeping records. All you need to do is share a link via email or text message.
Order by October 7, 2024 at this link. Pick-up at Collingwood School will be on Thursday, October 23.
