Labour Action
Alberta Teacher’s Assocation (ATA) members are voting between Sept 27 -29 on the tentative agreement reached between the Teacher’s Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) and the Alberta Teachers’ Association. We anticipate receiving results of that vote shortly thereafter.
For now, it continues to be business as usual in CBE schools.
Next steps
If ATA members vote in favour of the agreement, there will be no disruption to learning.
If ATA members reject the agreement, the strike notice remains in place and the strike will begin on Monday, Oct. 6.
The Calgary Board of Education respects the provincial bargaining process.
More information will be shared with staff and families as the situation evolves. You can also find the most up-to-date information on the main CBE webpage.
School Fees and Field Trips
Thank you to those families who paid overdue field trip fees from last year or who donated to cover that expense. We will make a final decision this week as to which field trips we will continue to offer for the 2025-26 school year.
Orange Shirt Day October 1
Collingwood School will be holding our Orange Shirt Day event this Wednesday, October 1. Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis Webstad’s story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion going on all aspects of residential schools. It is a time for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
At Collingwood, students are invited to wear an orange shirt to school this Wednesday as part of Orange Shirt Day. If children do not have an orange shirt, parents should not feel any pressure to go out and purchase one, as that is not the intent of this day. Teachers will take some time this week to discuss Orange Shirt Day, the importance of honoring each child and making everyone feel welcome at school.
Lost and Found
Please encourage your children to check out the lost and found this week as all remaining items will be donated to charity on Friday, October 3.
Bussing Students
If your child is not taking the bus home after school, please call the main office, 403-777-6180, or email us at collingwood@cbe.ab.ca.

Fall Apple Fundraiser
The Collingwood School Parents’ Association is very pleased to announce we have partnered up again with Sun-Oka, a distinguished Okanagan orchard, to sell their delicious farm-fresh apples for our first fundraiser of the year.
Because we’re sourcing the apples directly from the farm, you get to buy them at below grocery store prices. You’ll get the best apples you’ve ever eaten… and save some money.
Plus, with each box sold we will raise $10 for the music program at Collingwood. The funds we raise are so important for providing additional resources that will enrich and enhance our kids’ growth.
We also ask that you please consider sharing this fundraiser sale with your nearby friends and family. Everything is done online, so you won’t have to deal with any of the hassles of collecting money or keeping records. All you need to do is share a link via email or text message.
Order by October 7, 2024 at this link. Pick-up at Collingwood School will be on Thursday, October 23.
