Gaga Ball Pit Installation

Last school year, students and families fundraised for a gaga ball pit and it is currently being installed beside the fenced in Collingwood Food Forest. It will be completed this week. We are asking students to keep their distance from the workers as they are completing this project. So that all grades have a chance to use the gaga ball pit, we will be creating a schedule for which grades have access during which outdoor breaks. There will also be some training and coaching provided by our older students. We look forward to this new addition to our outdoor play equipment and are grateful to families and the Collingwood Parent Association for their financial support for this project.

Lifetouch Photos  Sept 17

We are looking for parent volunteers to help make our photo day run smoothly. There are two time blocks to volunteer, 8am-11:30 & 12pm-2:30.   If you would like to volunteer, click on link below:

Fun Lunch  Sept 18

Welcome back to what we anticipate will be an exciting new year!  With that being said, let’s kick off September with our first announcement of the year!  Our first Fun Lunch for students in Grades 1-6 will be Thursday, September 18, 2025! This Fun Lunch will be Panago + Booster Juice!

Order Deadline

The deadline to order a Fun Lunch or change/cancel an order is always the Saturday prior to the Fun Lunch date.  For this month the order deadline is Saturday, September 13, 2025, at midnight.  After this time, there is unfortunately no way to add/change or cancel an order.

Volunteer Sign-Up

In order for Fun Lunches to be a success, we rely on volunteers to help organize and distribute the meals. Please note the change in the volunteer time frame for this year. If you have a valid police clearance check, please consider signing up to help using this link:

In the event that your sign-up needs to be cancelled, please provide as much notice as possible as we require a minimum number of volunteers to distribute lunches promptly and will need to replace your position with a new volunteer.

Student Absence on Fun Lunch Days

If your child is absent from school, on Fun Lunch day, and you are planning to come pick up their Fun Lunch, please send an email to collingwood@cbe.ab.ca with instructions on pickup of the lunch.  Note the following restrictions:

  • The instructions must be received prior to 10:30 a.m. on the day of the Fun LunchFun Lunches are organized and distributed between 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.
  • Any unclaimed lunch orders (due to student absence), without directions received by 10:30 a.m., will be donated by the Parent Association to the staff room.
  • Pickup time for Fun Lunches for absent students will be 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., at the school.  This will allow our parent volunteers time to find and set aside the correct order.

Welcome Back Family Picnic

All families are welcome to attend our Welcome Back Family Picnic on Sept 12 from 10:30 – 12:00. Food trucks will be available. Families are invited to bring their lunch and blankets or lawn years and eat together with your child outside. Please note that the food trucks will be in the drop off loop so families will need to park along Collingwood Drive. If you will be taking your child home directly from the picnic please sign out your child with your child’s teacher. The teacher’s will be at their regular exit doors at 10:30 and at 11:45. Children taking the bus will be going back into the school at 11:45.

Further Details will follow about the other special events this month including the School Council Meeting and Conferences.

Parking and the Drop off loop

In the parking lot South of the school, there is a drop off loop which is intended for students who can independently exit the vehicle. Do not exit your vehicle to undo car seats, etc as if this is required, park along Collingwood Drive or in the visitor parking. If you are walking your children to their doors, please go through the playground rather than on the sidewalk in front of the drop off loop. This helps traffic to flow smoothly through the drop off loop.

Please also be aware that you may be fined or ticketed for parking in the St. Francis parking lot.

SOGO Residency

All students will be participating in an orienteering residency with SOGO Adventure running from Sept 15 – 26. Through this active outdoor residency students will be learning about map reading, directions, respecting others and respecting nature. The first week the activity will be on the school playground and the second week will be at Canmore Park. We will be seeking some volunteers with volunteer clearance  and will be sending out a request this week.

Labour Action

Due to the breakdown in negotiations between Alberta teachers and their employer, there is the possibility that teachers will be locked out and not allowed to enter schools, or that the Alberta Teachers’ Association will exercise a strike mandate, for which they must give 72 hours notice. We recognize that this creates a lot of uncertainty for families and school staff alike. At this time, classes will be proceeding as usual.
