TimberNook Residency

Dear Collingwood Families,

From September 11-28 all Collingwood students will be participating in an active outdoor residency with Timbernook. We are grateful to the Collingwood Parent Association for supporting this residency so that we are able to offer this experience at no charge to families.

Over the 3 week residency at Collingwood, each class will get the opportunity to engage in outdoor play experiences at the school and/or at nearby Canmore Park. The sessions are designed to encourage creativity, problem solving, resilience, and teamwork, as well as developmentally appropriate gross motor, fine motor, and social skills. Teachers will have lots of opportunities to learn as well!

Timbernook an all-weather program (with the exception of hail, air quality or electrical storms). Your child’s teacher will be in touch about their scheduled days with Nature Play. On these days, please send your child with pants that can get dirty, closed-toe shoes with good grip, sunglasses, a hat, and an appropriate jacket(s) for the weather. September mornings can be quite chilly, so you may want to send along a few pairs of light gloves as well.

We can use a few parent volunteers to help with this residency. Your child's teacher will be reaching out to you directly to see who is available to help on specific dates and times. All volunteers must have a valid volunteer security clearance and have completed the annual Collingwood volunteer form. A reminder that police volunteer clarance checks are valid for 5 years. If your volunteer clearance has expired or you are a new volunteer there is a new process that includes a $21.00 fee. To start the process, please come to the school office after 9:00 am.
