Collingwood School Council Meeting Sept 20

On Wednesday, September 20 at 6:30 pm, we will hold the first School Council meeting of the school year. This will be an in-person event at the school. All Collingwood families are automatically a part of the School Council and are welcome to attend this meeting. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other engaged Collingwood families and learn more about school issues and events.

Collingwood Parent Association Meeting Sept 20

Following the School Council Meeting will be the first Collingwood Parent Association meeting of the school year. The Parent Association meeting will start as soon as the council meeting ends, likely between 7:30 and 8:10. This will be an in-person event at the school however families can also join online at the following link on Microsoft Teams: Click here to join the meeting

Being a part of our School Council and the Parent Association is a great way to get to know families and be directly involved in various capacities at the school such as fundraising, social events, clubs, volunteering and so much more.

There will be several positions open within both organizations this year and they will become available at our next Annual General Meeting (AGM) in late October.

Details for open positions for school council and parent association can be found on the Collingwood School Website as well as the attached flyer.

Remember to complete the mandatory CSPA Membership Form prior to next week's meeting!

Timbernook Residency

Please be sure to ask your children about their experiences with Timbernook. Timbernook is an active, outdoor, play-based residency. This week, students will explore creative outdoor play, storytelling and problem solving in the forest at Canmore Park. This residency will continue until the beginning of October. We are grateful to the Collingwood Parent Association for their financial support for this residency, which we are able to offer at no cost to families.

Collingwood Bee Logo Contest

Congratulations to the many students who submitted logo designs for our Collingwood Bee Logo Contest. Each class chose a winner from their classroom and then the entire school voted to select a winner. Congratulations to Karys Ahmad for creating the winning design. Her logo will appear on the jars of Collingwood honey which will be for sale next month. Runner up designs were created by Julian Yu and Maxime Sather.

Fun Lunch

Our First Fun Lunch of the school year will be on September 21.

Student Absent on Fun Lunch Days

If your child is absent from school on Fun Lunch day and you are planning to come pick up their fun lunch, please send an email to collingwood@cbe.ab.ca with instructions on pick up of the fun lunch. The instructions must be received prior to 10:30am on the day of the fun lunch. Fun lunches are distributed between 10:30am and 11:30am.

Any unclaimed lunch orders, due to absence of student, without directions received by 10:30am will be donated by the parent association to the staff room.

Pick up time for fun Lunches for absent students will be 11:45am - 12:00pm at the school. This will allow our parent volunteers time to find and set aside the fun lunch.

A parent association volunteer will assist you with the lunch collection during this pick up time.

For any allergy alerts or questions please contact fun lunch coordinator, Sara S. at funlunchcollingwood@gmail.com

Parent-Teacher Conferences Sept 21, 22

All families are invited to attend Parent Teacher Conferences on September 21or 22. This is an important opportunity for parents to share information with teachers about your children and their learning. Conference booking is now open online. A reminder that there is no school for Kindergarten on September 21stand no school for all students on September 22nd due to conferences.

Orange Shirt Day

All students and staff are Collingwood School are invited to participate in Orange Shirt Day on September 28. This day is an opportunity for all people to come together in the spirit of reconciliation. Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 when residential school survivor, Phyllis Webstad, shared how her orange shirt was taken away on her first day at a residential school.

Collingwood students can promote reconciliation in welcoming, caring, respectful, safe, and inclusive school communities by wearing an orange shirt. The intent of this day is to promote inclusion and caring. Do not feel obliged to purchase an orange shirt for your child just for this day.

Honey Extraction Workshop

On September 28 a beekeeper from Alveole will be extracting honey from our Collingwood beehive. This process will be done live in Sr. Pelayo’s classroom and live-streamed for all of our students. We are grateful to the Collingwood Parent Association for their financial support for our bee project.

Playground Safety

For everyone’s safety, for those parents and students who routinely bike to school, we ask that you walk your bikes on school grounds.

On a related note, please be aware that once the school day has started, the school grounds and playground is reserved for students only during the school day.
